The Western Kenya powerhouse has dominated the national school hockey scene over the past three seasons, repeatedly edging out their long-time rivals St Antony’s Boys High School, Kitale, in the national finals. Malungu is confident that his side can once again rise to the occasion and extend their remarkable run.
“I believe we can win the title again. We have a good, mature team, and most of the players have grown and developed together. They understand each other very well, and that gives us a big advantage,” said Malungu.
Musingu High School has established itself as one of the most successful hockey institutions in the country, renowned for its structured development system, disciplined play, and consistency at the national level.
The school has been a regular fixture at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national championships, often setting the standard for school hockey.
However, the team faces a transitional period after losing six first-team players who completed their secondary education. Despite the departures, Malungu insists the squad remains competitive due to a strong pipeline of talent.
“We lost six players who finished high school, but we already have their replacements. I believe the transition will be smooth because we prepare our players early for such moments,” he added.
The veteran tactician attributed Musingu’s sustained success to a combination of hard work, discipline, and continuity in player development.
“Our dominance comes from hard work, taking every game seriously at all levels of competition, and, most importantly, maintaining discipline and teamwork. Good transitions ensure the team remains competitive year after year,” Malungu noted.
As the national championships approach, Musingu High School will once again enter the tournament as favourites, aiming to cement their legacy as one of Kenya’s most formidable school hockey teams.
