Munene noted that while Ingwe remain 10 points adrift of log leaders Gor Mahia in the race, a positive result could reignite belief within the squad and shift momentum.
The 12-time league champions were dealt a shocking 4-1 loss to Mathare United on Sunday hence derailing their quest for a league title this season.
“Today’s game will play a bigger role in challenging for the league although it’s a long shot for AFC Leopards. But anything is possible because if Ingwe wins the match then it will bring back the psyche and revive their ambitions for the title.”
Beyond the immediate result, the former skipper urged the club to take a broader view of its progress this season, particularly in evaluating performance to guide future decisions on recruitment and tactical approach.
He also highlighted the importance of continuity within the squad, expressing confidence in the foundation that has already been built under chairman Boniface Ambani.
“I really hope there will be a very good continuation such that we maintain the players we have and strengthen where we have weaknesses.
The team has shown it can go all the way to win the title because of what the chairman – Boniface Ambani – has done. There is a clear picture of what the current office is doing and there is that feeling it won’t take long before they lift the title,” added Munene.
Munene maintained that while winning the title would be ideal, the progress made so far is equally significant, insisting that with a few adjustments, AFC Leopards can realistically push to finish at the top of the league.
With one game at hand, Leopards are second on the 18-teams log with 43 points, 10 behind table toppers Gor Mahia while Shabana come third on 40.
