After kicking off the season with two solid wins, Mombasa United are aiming to keep their momentum when they face Luanda Villa this Saturday at their home ground in Mbaraki, Mombasa.
Head coach Gilbert Selebwa, who led Luanda Villa last season, admits that the upcoming match won’t be a walk in the park.
However, he feels he has enough arsenal to deal with Villa, a side he laboured tirelessly to polish last term.
“It will not be an easy match since I was their coach last season and we did well. They know my style of play,” said Selebwa.
“But we’ll do what we can to collect maximum points at home," added the former AFC Leopards coach.
Despite the challenge, Selebwa remains confident in his squad’s ability and spirit.
He believes the players are well-prepared and motivated to extend their winning streak and continue their strong start to the National Super League (NSL) campaign.
One of Mombasa United’s biggest strengths this season has been their tactical flexibility, something Selebwa attributes to the quality and depth in his squad.
“We are integrating different playing styles according to the quality players we have. We’ve got many good offensive wingers and midfielders, which makes it easier for us to switch formations during matches — and it’s really working well for us,” noted the coach.
Currently topping the NSL table with six points from two matches, Mombasa United are full of confidence heading into the weekend.
Luanda Villa, on the other hand, sit 13th with just one point and will be desperate to get their first win of the season.
