Lawmakers heaped praise on Ida for her contributions to the nation, expressing confidence that she will effectively carry out her duties at the international organisation.
Led by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa and his counterpart, Minority Leader Junet Mohammed, the legislators also criticised those who opposed Ida’s appointment.
“…I have no doubt that she will be able to leverage her diplomatic credentials, teaching experience, and the social capital she has built over the years. Mama Ida Odinga is not an ordinary figure in this country or the world,” said Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa.
“Mr. Speaker, there are Kenyans all over social media criticising people, saying things like ‘You don’t deserve this’ or ‘You have sold out.’ Give us a break. Shame on you! Every Kenyan is willing and ready to serve their country when called upon. If you are not ready to serve, shut up and go do something else,” added Minority Leader Junet Mohammed.
The National Assembly also approved the appointment of Francis Meja as Chairperson of the Public Service Commission.
