Mombasa United FC bounced back to winning ways in the National Super League on Saturday afternoon with a solid 2–0 victory over Equity FC at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa County.

Coming off a 2–0 away defeat to Kisumu All Stars last weekend, goals from Denis Toeri and Nehemiah Onchiri secured all three points for the hosts.

Mombasa United started brightly, and in the 16th minute, Steve Nyagor’s long-range 40-yard strike forced Equity goalkeeper Michael Onyango to concede a corner. Just a minute later, Answer Shamuni came close to scoring, but once again Onyango was well-positioned to collect the effort.

Equity FC’s first meaningful response arrived in the 24th minute when Abdi Daikeza’s attempt was saved by Mombasa United goalkeeper Richard Bancha. Two minutes later, defender Benard Lusi squandered a clear tap-in opportunity from a corner.

The breakthrough finally came in the 35th minute after Fidel Omondi was fouled inside the penalty area. Denis Toeri stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to give Mombasa United the lead.

Four minutes into the second half, substitute Nehemiah Onchiri doubled the advantage with a low strike after weaving past the Equity defensive line.

Equity nearly pulled one back in the 63rd minute, but Abdi’s shot whisked just wide of the target.

Mombasa United held firm to preserve the clean sheet and secure the home win.

Speaking after the final whistle, Mombasa United head coach Gilbert Selebwa praised his team’s resilience and acknowledged Equity’s competitiveness.

"It has been a tough one, no doubt one of the toughest sides we have faced. They didn’t utilise their chances, and we made ours count. This is a big motivation after that away loss," Selebwa said.

Equity FC head coach John Mbenzwa, on the other hand, expressed disappointment in his forwards.

"It has not been how we anticipated. We didn't utilise the chances we got, but I’m sure we will bounce back in our next fixture," he stated.
