Mombasa United begin squad rebuild with release of 14 players

The players released are Richard Ebenyo, Frank Wata, Shadrack Ngamia, Peter Mbuya, Answar Shamun, Nehemiah Onchiri, Mayson Andala, Faraj Ominde, Abdallah Swaleh, Christian Zigah, Samuel Atta, Kennedy Odhiambo, Rodgers Aloro and Abdulrahman Said.

The club is awaiting a ruling from the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) over a case challenging the FKF promotion process. The verdict will determine whether Mombasa United will join Migori Youth and 3K FC in the top flight next season.

"As one chapter closes, another begins. Today, we bid farewell to a group of players who have proudly worn the Mombasa United badge and contributed to our journey. On behalf of everyone at Mombasa United FC, we extend our sincere gratitude for your dedication, professionalism and commitment during your time with the club," the club said.

The club also wished the players success in the next phase of their careers.

"Your dedication, hard work and commitment have left a lasting mark on Mombasa United. Thank you for representing our badge with pride and for the memories we've shared both on and off the pitch. While your journeys now take you in new directions, you will always remain part of the Mombasa United family. We wish each of you every success, good health and fulfilment in the next chapter of your careers," the statement added.

According to the club's management, only 12 players remain in the current squad, signalling the beginning of a major rebuilding process.

The club is also expected to unveil a new head coach and several new signings later this week as preparations for the 2026/27 season gather pace.

Despite the ongoing restructuring, Mombasa United's place in the Kenyan Premier League remains uncertain.

Club President Abdirahman Hussein expressed confidence that the tribunal's decision will favor Mombasa United.

"We are ready for any verdict. There's nothing much we can do, but we are very positive," said Hussein.
