Kenya’s transition to electric mobility has received a major boost following a partnership between MojaEV Kenya Limited and Caritas Microfinance Bank to provide affordable financing for electric taxi drivers.
The collaboration has seen the handover of six electric taxis
to drivers under the MojaEV Leasing Program at the company’s Electric Mobility
Centre in Nairobi.
The initiative allows drivers to lease electric vehicles and
gradually gain full ownership, offering a practical path toward sustainable
transport and financial independence.
MojaEV Sales Director Achieng Anam said the partnership makes
electric transport accessible to ordinary Kenyans while supporting the
country’s green economy agenda.
“These vehicles represent more than just innovation, they are
tools for empowerment, giving drivers the opportunity to own their businesses
and contribute to a cleaner planet,” she said.
Caritas Bank’s Head of Retail Banking Martin Kirimi said the
bank is committed to supporting Kenya’s shift toward clean energy.
“Our partnership with MojaEV ensures that sustainability and
empowerment go hand in hand. Through affordable financing, we are helping more
Kenyans join the e-mobility revolution,” he noted.
Gideon Oele, Director of Industry at the Ministry of
Industrialization, praised the partnership as a model for aligning private investment
with national green goals.
“This is the kind of collaboration that will make Kenya’s
e-mobility vision a reality,” he said.
The MojaEV–Caritas partnership forms part of a broader
strategy to electrify Kenya’s transport sector by converting taxi, public
service, and corporate fleets to electric vehicles, while creating new
opportunities in charging, maintenance, and green energy infrastructure.
MojaEV says the program is just the beginning of its plan to
expand e-mobility financing and operations across East Africa.
