Miraa drivers have been put on notice and warned against flouting traffic rules along the busy Mwea–Embu highway in Kirinyaga County.

Central Regional Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha said a crackdown on vehicles ferrying miraa is ongoing across all major roads, with particular focus on the Mwea–Embu highway, where reckless driving has contributed to accidents and loss of lives.

Speaking in Kagumo, Kirinyaga Central, on Thursday, Nkanatha said the operation is being enforced by traffic police officers, and several drivers have already been arrested and prosecuted.

“We want to restore order on the road to curb accidents linked to miraa drivers and ensure compliance with safety measures,” he said. “Even though some attempt to reroute to evade officers or avoid areas where accidents have sparked public protests, we are dealing with them firmly.”
