A section of residents in Migori county are living in fear of contracting diseases following the poor handling and disposal of garbage.

The locals faulted the Migori county government through the waste management department, saying they are in the habit of disposing rubbish in the  wrong place, including residential areas, a situation that endangers life.

“We are living in fear of contracting diseases, including cholera and urge the county to take swift action to deal with the matter,” Anne Adera said.

She continued, "Mothers are also worried because the lives of their children are in danger. Children are picking all sorts of infections due to the poor waste disposal."

The residents are now asking the Migori County Government to intervene and maintain cleanliness by allocating specific waste disposal areas in the county.

Samuel Doo, another resident, said that locals are going to hold protests if the county does not deal with the menace and clear the garbage dumped in residential areas.
