Governor Ochilo Ayacko, speaking during a media briefing in Nairobi, said preparations were underway to deliver a memorable event that celebrates Migori’s cultural diversity.
“The basis of this cultural extravaganza is to celebrate diversity because Migori is a cosmopolitan county with a diverse population,” Governor Ayacko said.
This year’s theme, “Honoring Heritage, Uniting Generations,” seeks to bridge traditional values with modern expressions of art, entrepreneurship, and trade.
The 2025 edition will be the first held without its long-time patron, the late Raila Amolo Odinga.
“This will be a significant edition because it allows us to reflect on Raila Odinga’s immense contribution to the Luo nation and Kenya as a whole,” Governor Ayacko noted. “It will inspire both the young and the old to appreciate the values he stood for
He added that the festival will also open space for other communities in Migori, including the Kuria, Luhya, Kisii, and Somali, to showcase their cultural expressions.
The event will feature traditional performances, panel discussions on culture and commerce, a First Lady’s Gala Night, and a boat race at Migori’s water bodies.
President William Ruto and other regional leaders are expected to attend alongside cultural icons, innovators, and development partners.
According to the Governor, the festival aims to position Migori as a growing hub for culture, investment, and tourism while promoting cultural heritage as a tool for trade and youth empowerment.
