Tusker FC head coach Julien Mette says the performance has termed their hard fought 2-1 win over Kariobangi Sharks on Monday in their latest Kenya Premier League encounter as a highlight of the gradual adoption of his football philosophy.

Since his arrival, Mette has focused on creating a team that is confident on the ball, disciplined in movement, and capable of controlling games through possession.

For him, the philosophy is largely about developing a mindset that allows players to make decisions with composure and move as a coordinated unit as opposed to tactics alone.

"The philosophy is well received because we see a lot of change in terms of possession play and confidence with the ball, occupation, so the principles are understood," Mette said.

Against Kariobangi Sharks, Tusker displayed moments of controlled play, particularly in the opening minutes when they dictated tempo and looked composed in their passing.

Players demonstrated sharper awareness of space, suggesting they are beginning to internalize the principles Mette has been emphasizing in training.

Still, the coach is mindful that understanding a philosophy is one thing, executing it consistently under pressure is another. Defensive concentration and match management remain areas where the team can improve.

"Now we need to work on details like maturity, like how to keep the score," he noted. Mette explained that maturity involves making the right choices at critical moments, defending collectively, and knowing when to slow the game to protect a lead.

Physical readiness is also a key part of implementing his style. Some players are still adapting to the demands of a possession-based approach, which requires high intensity, sharp positioning, and sustained focus.

Mette is encouraged by the positive mindset in the squad. Even players who do not start regularly contribute to the culture he is building, fostering a team-wide commitment to the playing style.
