The People’s Liberation Party (PLP's) Martha Karua on Saturday led a political rally in Chiakariga Ward, Tharaka Nithi County, where she urged Kenyans to remain united and reject divisive politics.

Karua, who was accompanied by PLP aspirant leaders, called on residents of the Mt Kenya region to work together peacefully and avoid being divided along political lines.

The former Justice Minister said the country needs leaders who are close to wananchi and understand the challenges facing ordinary citizens.

“Tunahitaji viongozi ambao watakaa na wananchi na wajue shida zao,” she added.

Karua also criticised President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of failing to adequately address the concerns and grievances raised by Kenyans.

She further noted that Kenya has been led by men since independence and said the country should now consider women leadership.

Residents who attended the rally welcomed the visit but urged political leaders seeking support in the area to prioritise development projects that would improve livelihoods and address local challenges.
