The family of a Kilgoris businessman who was clubbed to death inside his own shop is demanding justice, as police hunt two suspects captured on CCTV carrying out the attack.

Abdi Kala, 30, ran an M-Pesa outlet that doubled as a clothes boutique in the Narok County town.

He was struck on the back of the head with a crowbar on Saturday, August 29, and died later the same day while receiving treatment at a hospital in Kisii.

CCTV footage from inside the premises shows two men entering the shop posing as customers shortly after 10am and drawing Kala into small talk.

He briefly steps into the shopkeeper's closet, returns moments later and is seen preparing to show the pair items of clothing.

One of the men then strikes him from behind with a crowbar. Kala collapses and is left bleeding on the floor as the second man empties the cash till, making off with Sh300,000.

The attackers also took goods valued at a similar amount and searched the injured trader's body before fleeing the premises.

Kala was buried on Saturday in line with Islamic rites.

His killing has rattled the business community in Kilgoris, where traders shut their premises in solidarity with the bereaved family. Residents link the attack to what they describe as worsening insecurity in the town.

"A man is attacked in his own shop at 10 in the morning, beaten and killed. We are asking the government and the security team in Kilgoris to act," one trader said.

Police in the area are pursuing the two suspects seen in the footage. No arrests had been announced by the time of publication.
