Energy, excitement, and pure joy filled the air as young athletes made their mark at the Private and International Prep Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) Sports Festival, hosted in partnership with Oshwal Academy Nairobi on Saturday.

The vibrant one-day swimming gala and football tournament brought together schools from across Nairobi, celebrating youthful passion, teamwork, and the power of sports.

At the Oshwal Academy poolside, six schools — Oshwal Academy Nairobi, Swaminarayan Swim Team, Shadel International, Waldorf Swim Team, Trinitas International, and Trinity International Kindergarten — splashed into action, cheered on by proud parents and teammates.

The friendly competition turned into a spectacular display of talent, determination, and sportsmanship.

Among the standout performers was Julietta Ogindo, a seven-year-old swimmer from Oshwal Academy, who lit up the pool with a swift 12-meter freestyle streamline. Clocking an impressive 12.44 seconds, Ogindo clinched gold ahead of Waldorf’s Sophie Moraa and Oshwal’s Diya Patel.

“It was my first competition, and I really enjoyed it,” said the beaming young swimmer. “I want to do even better next time.”

Equally remarkable was Sipho Omanga, aged six, of Swaminarayan Swim Team, who powered through the 12-meter free kickboard event in 9.76 seconds. His wide grin said it all.

“I’ll keep training because I want to be better,” he said. “I’ve really enjoyed the competition.”

Coaches and organizers expressed pride in the young athletes’ performances.

“It’s amazing to see so many kids swimming with passion,” said Coach Junior Ojwang of Trinity International School. “This shows that the sport is growing, and the future looks bright.”

Meanwhile, the football pitches buzzed with equal energy as nine schools competed in the Under-9 football tournament. Tiny boots kicked up big dreams — none bigger than those of eight-year-old captain Jason Nkuranga from Trinitas International, who led his team with courage and heart.

“Representing my school and scoring made me so proud,” said Nkuranga. “It gave us all courage and belief in ourselves.”

For the coaches, the day wasn’t just about medals — it was about growth and teamwork.

“It’s a privilege to be part of PIPSSA,” said Dishon Collins, Head Coach at Crawford International. “These events keep children active, nurture their talents, and build a lasting sports culture.”

PIPSSA Chairperson Jedidah Munyua praised the young athletes for their effort and discipline.

“Our goal is to help children improve, compete fairly, and discover their strengths,” she said. “We hope more schools will join us so every child has a chance to shine.”

As the day closed, Oshwal Academy triumphed in the girls’ Under-9 football category, followed by Samaj and Crawford International. In the boys’ contest, Swaminarayan took the crown, with Nova Pioneer and Crawford International rounding out the top three.

From splashing waves to soaring goals, the PIPSSA Sports Festival proved one thing beyond doubt — Kenya’s next generation of champions is already making waves and dreaming big.
