Construction of a Sh250 million ultra-modern clubhouse at Limuru Country Club is set to begin after a fire razed down the iconic building a year ago.

According to club chairman Peter Kinuthia, the club received Sh71 million from insurance following the incident, with members expected to raise the remaining funds required for the project.

Kinuthia revealed that 24 architectural firms submitted design proposals for the new clubhouse. A jury committee led by Musau Kimeu from the University of Nairobi Department of Architecture reviewed the submissions and shortlisted eight firms that met the set criteria before selecting the final design.

The chairman of the development committee, Waweru Gathecha, said the new facility is being designed with the future in mind.

He noted that the aim is to construct a world-class clubhouse that will serve generations to come while maintaining the club’s rich heritage.

Lead juror Musau Kimeu said the committee ensured that the chosen design reflects the club’s vision while maintaining continuity with the former clubhouse.

Construction of the new facility is expected to begin in June this year and will take about two years to complete. In the meantime, the club’s board is constructing a temporary pavilion to allow players a place to change and prepare before games.

On January 4, 2025, a fire broke out at around 3 a.m., destroying the iconic club house at Limuru Country Club. Several fire engines were dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze.

The historic structure, which was largely built from wood, was completely destroyed as the fire quickly spread through the timber framework.
