Kwale County is set to host the 3-day 2025 Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Road Cycling African Championships from November 19 to 23.

The event is expected to attract elite cyclists from at least 20 African countries and around the world, aiming to celebrate athletic talent, youth energy, and unity through cycling.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting at the County Headquarters, Governor Achani said that preparations are progressing well, noting that both security and infrastructure have been strengthened to ensure the smooth running of the event.

“This championship places Kwale at the heart of continental sports tourism. We are committed to delivering a seamless and memorable experience for our visitors, athletes, and spectators. I call upon everyone across the county and the nation at large to join us in experiencing this moment,” said Governor Achani.

Governor Achani also announced the temporary closure and the removal of speed bumps on the roads, including Lotfa Beach Road, some parts of the Mombasa-Lungalunga Highway, ABSA Beach Road, Mvindeni Beach Road, and Kwale-Kombani Road, that will be used during the competition.

She added that the event is expected to boost the tourism and business sectors in the county, expressing her gratitude to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports under the leadership of CS Salim Mvurya for choosing Kwale as the second host of the competition in the country, after Eldoret County, which hosted the 2024 cycling event.

“Apart from participating in the cycling competition, we also invite our visitors to explore Kwale’s unique attractions. We are the home of the rare sable antelopes, and we welcome everyone to experience this natural heritage,” she added.

The Principal Secretary in the State Department of Sports, Elijah Mwangi, praised the county’s level of preparedness and reaffirmed the national government’s commitment to fully supporting the coordination and success of the event.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Cycling Union, Kelvin Mwangi, encouraged Kwale residents to attend and participate in the coming event.

“We want people to come out not only to cheer but also to appreciate the importance of physical fitness. Cycling promotes a healthy lifestyle, and this event provides a great opportunity for the community to embrace wellness,” he said.

The championship is expected to leave a lasting imprint on Kwale, not only by boosting its visibility on the African sports map but also by promoting local culture, economic growth, and community unity.
