The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has confirmed that its official customer care account on X (formerly Twitter), @KRACare, has been hacked. The account's handle was fraudulently changed to "StandsX."

The hacked account, which was created in February 2014 and has 339,000 followers, was primarily used to provide customer support and service updates.

The taxman issued a strong public caution  to refrain from engaging with the account till further notice.

"The official @KRACare X (formerly Twitter) account has been hacked and its handle changed to ‘StandsX’. Members of the public are strongly warned not to engage, share personal information, or send money to any messages or posts from this account, as they are fraudulent,” the Authority stated on X via its official handle @KRACorporate.

KRA revealed that it had launched urgent efforts in collaboration with X to retrieve and secure the account.

"Official updates will be shared through verified KRA communication channels. You can still reach us on Facebook or via WhatsApp 0711099999," the Authority added, guiding citizens toward legitimate contact options while the breach is resolved.
