Kenya Premier League sophomores Mara Sugar FC left it late to force a dramatic 2-2 draw against Sofapaka in a midweek encounter played on Tuesday at Dandora Stadium, Nairobi. Mara Sugar FC moves up a point after a dramatic 2-2 draw with Sofa Paka in the Kenya Premier League encounters on October 28th at the Dandora Stadium.
Both sides were defensive
from the onset, perhaps an indication of a balanced attack and defending with the
intent of minimizing errors. Mara striker Kevin Ndayala made notable attempts in
the opening exchanges, but Sofapaka's backline proved formidable as they held
out for a barren draw at the break.
The millers changed the
tidings in the second half, with David Mwiti breaking the deadlock in the 57th
minute after teeing up Dan Ochieng’s neat pass.
This boosted the team's
morale as they stepped up their momentum, Timothy Ndayala doubling the lead
with a strike from the left corner in the 67th minute.
Stanley Lugalia pulled
one back for Sofapaka from a corner in the 72nd minute. Joseph Kuloba
capitalized on the momentary defensive lapse to score an equalizer in the 92nd
minute.
This outcome sees Mara
Sugar move ninth on the log with six points, while Sofapaka are ranked 13th
with five points.
Sofapaka will hope to return to winning ways when they take on high-flying Nairobi United on Saturday at the Nyayo Stadium.
