Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu has assured teachers who have waited long to be employed by the government that they are all going to be hired through an affirmative action agreement between the government and the teachers' union.

Oyuu, who was speaking in Rongo on Sunday, said President William Ruto has agreed to absorb all the teachers who have stayed for many years before getting employed by the government in due course.

He said it’s very unfortunate that there are teachers who are 45 years old are yet to be employed by the government.

The KNUT SG said they will ensure that such teachers are absorbed through the affirmative action being implemented by the government.

Oyuu in his remarks also indicated that the government has also agreed to promote more teachers who have stagnated for many years.

He said the Head of State agreed to increase the money set for teachers’ promotion from Ksh.1B to Ksh.2B so that more teachers can be promoted next year.

The KNUT SG also lauded the Kenya Kwanza government for employing the highest number of teachers within a period of three years.

He said the union is happy that the Kenya Kwanza government has employed 76,000 teachers and addition 20,000 will be employed in January 2026.
