Kisii: Villagers protest destruction of farms, homesteads during erection of power transmission lines

A resident, who lives in Nairobi, but recently went to visit his parents in the village, said, “I was shocked to come and find these power lines have been put up right next to our homesteads and they are low-lying, posing a risk to residents. We don’t understand why we were not consulted first.”

He called on Kenya Power to rectify the situation.

The power generation company was not available for comment by the time of publication.

Another resident complained that his banana farm was destroyed to make way for the power lines to be erected.

“Yes, they are installing power lines to ensure electricity, but it’s being done in an unprofessional way. My crops were cut down ostensibly to pave way for the electricity poles,” he said.
