A family in Mururi Village, Kirinyaga County, is living in anguish after their 39-year-old son mysteriously went missing nearly a month ago.
According to Robert Karanja Mwaura, a retired teacher, his son James Mwaura, who worked as a loader in Embu, disappeared on September 27, 2025, and has not been seen since.

Karanja, who lives alone at Mururi Shopping Centre following the death of his wife in October 2023, said the disappearance of his only son has left him devastated.

“I am in deep sorrow and still cannot come to terms with the painful reality that I no longer see my son in this compound,” said Karanja.
He added that he and his neighbours, led by Charles Ndung’u, have been visiting police stations and mortuaries across Embu and Kirinyaga counties in vain.

“Every morning I wake up with new hope of finding him. I have searched day and night, and the pain is driving me to the edge,” he said.
The elderly man recalled how his family survived both the 1990 Molo tribal clashes and the 2007–2008 post-election violence, only for tragedy to strike again years later.

“My wife died in October 2023, and now my son has gone missing in October 2025. October has become my worst month,” he lamented.
Police in Embu and Kirinyaga are yet to release any updates on the case.
