Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned the opposition against sponsoring chaos in Mbeere North ahead of the by-election in the constituency next week, saying such attempts will not be entertained.

The DP, who is leading the campaigns for the UDA candidate, Mr. Leonard Muriuki Wamuthende Leo, said some leaders in the opposition have resorted to violence in an attempt to disrupt peace in the constituency.

“We cannot allow some people to incite us against each other yet we know the challenges we are facing as the people of Mt Kenya East. We don’t have a problem with our opponents but we cannot allow one person who is sponsoring goons to drive a wedge among our peaceful people of Embu and Mbeere North,” DP cautioned.

Speaking on Tuesday at Karambari, Mbeere North, Prof. Kindiki said those in the forefront chest-thumping and insulting local leaders occupied senior positions in government previously but did nothing to improve the lives of people in the area.

“You did nothing when you were in office, now you are here lecturing us and insulting Embu leaders who were elected by wananchi. This is not acceptable and the era of pride and insults has come to an end,” DP added.

The Deputy President said the ruling coalition is fully behind Mr. Leo’s candidature because he is fit and best placed to take the constituency forward through faster completion of ongoing projects.

The key projects funded by the national government in the constituency include the tarmacking of Saikago-Kanyuambora and Gukuyari-Muminji-Kirie-Ishiara Roads.

“We have had four previous presidents who were not able to tarmack these roads. It is President Ruto who has prioritized them and they will be completed on time,” assured DP.

Embu County has also benefitted from 12 modern markets including three in Mbeere North. They are located in Ishiara (nearing completion) and two in Siakago and Karambari set to commence.

Water projects are also going on in Kanyuambora and Nthawa areas among others.

The government has also doubled allocation for last-mile electricity connection in the constituency to Sh500 million.

“As your neighbor from Tharaka Nithi, I am pleading with you not to be enticed into the opposition by those who don’t mean well and losing the goodwill to complete all these projects,” DP urged.

He said it will be challenging to complete the projects if the area MP belongs to the opposition and will be insulting the government every day.

“With Leo in Parliament, it will be easier to push for the completion of all these projects. You cannot have someone in Parliament who will be opposing the President and his government from the first day,” Prof. Kindiki stated.
