Police in
Kilimani, Nairobi, have arrested and detained a man accused of impersonating a
military officer using a stolen identification card to obtain subsidised goods.
The suspect,
identified as Silah Ouma Abongo, was arrested along KMC Landis Road and later
escorted to Kilimani Police Station, where he was booked. The incident occurred
on Friday, according to police.
Authorities said
Abongo was found in possession of a military identification card belonging to
Edwin Chetty Atsango, an active service officer.
Investigations
indicate the suspect had been using the stolen card to illegally access
subsidised goods from the Armed Forces Canteen Organisation (AFCO) by falsely
presenting himself as a serviceman.
The arrest was
carried out by three military officers - Sergeant Purity Chelagat, Sergeant
Cliffton, and Senior Private Kevin Odero - who became suspicious of the
suspect’s activities and conducted an inspection.
Police noted that
Abongo appeared visibly intoxicated at the time of booking and was immediately
placed in custody.
Kilimani police
command said the suspect will remain detained as interrogations and further
investigations continue. Officers are preparing to charge him with impersonation
and fraud.
Police have also
warned members of the public and service institutions to remain vigilant
against individuals exploiting military identification for personal gain.
