Kibera Black Stars head coach Iddi Badi has expressed delight at his side’s performance and the impact of his new players after their thrilling 3–2 win over Nairobi City Stars in a National Super League (NSL) encounter played on Sunday, at the Vapor Grounds in Ngong.
The victory, their
third of the season, showcased the team’s growing confidence and tactical
awareness, with goals from Fidel Castro, Bockins Adeya, and Jephiter Bundi
sealing the hard-fought win.
He said: “Playing against City Stars wasn’t going to be
easy, it was a game of moments. Their midfield was very strong in the first
half, so we had to be patient and know the right time to press. Once they made
changes, we took advantage and controlled the game.”
The tactician
credited his side’s discipline and mental strength but emphasized that the
introduction of new players made a crucial difference, both in maintaining
tempo and bringing fresh energy into the match.
“Our tactics
worked, though not perfectly,” he noted. “We introduced a few of our new
signings, and I’m really impressed with how they handled themselves. They’ve
shown maturity and hunger, and giving them minutes in such a big game has
really paid off.”
Badi added that
squad depth will be key to sustaining their title and promotion ambitions this
season, noting that competition for places keeps the team sharp and motivated.
“We have depth
now in this team, and that’s a huge advantage,” he said. “Every player wants to
prove a point, and that internal competition pushes us forward. The league is
tough—every opponent wants to win—but if we keep preparing well and giving our
new boys more time, we’ll only get stronger.”
Despite the
positive result, Badi admitted that there’s still work to be done, particularly
in tightening the defence and improving game management in the latter stages.
The win lifted
Kibera Black Stars to third place in the NSL table with nine points from four
matches, just three points behind leaders Migori Youth.
The team now
turns its focus to its home fixture against Nzoia Sugar on Wednesday, October
29, as it aims to build on its momentum and continue its charge toward the top
of the standings.
