Kerugoya High Court extends order suspending privatisation of Mwea rice mills, again

Kerugoya High Court Judge Edward Muriithi had extended the conservatory order on November 10, 2025, after ordering the petitioners to physically serve the Attorney General (AG), Mwea Rice Growers Cooperative Society Ltd (MRGM)and MRM.
Judge Muriithi set the hearing and the determination of the case for December 3, after the AG failed to appear again.
"There was no one from the Attorney General, so there is need to be informed hearing has been set for 3rd December 2025...the cost will await the outcome of the petition," Judge Muriithi said.
Mwea rice farmers Pius Njogu and John Munene moved to Kerugoya High Court after President William Ruto signed nine key bills into law on October 15, 2025, among them the Privatisation Act 2025, which proposed the privatisation of MRM among other institutions.
