Kenya’s Nafuna punches to flyweight final at Africa Zone 3 Boxing Champs

Nafuna is now set to compete for the gold medal this Friday.
Speaking after her victory, Nafuna admitted that the journey to the final was intense, driven by immense pressure from both the expectant home fans and rival nations.
“There was definitely a lot of pressure, especially from the competing nations," she stated.
“The fans expected us to retain the Cup on home soil. Despite some low expectations from outside, we had confidence in ourselves from day one, and we believed we could win.”
Nafuna remains hopeful for a triumphant finish. "I am hopeful of bringing home the gold in the next match," she promised, showcasing the determination from the Kenyan team.
National coach John Ochieng, also known as 'Coach Chea,' echoed his athletes’ optimism, attributing the team's success to the unwavering determination and dedication from both the coaching staff and the boxers.
He also firmly backs the goal of retaining the Cup: "We are focused on retaining the gold at home." He remarked.
He urged fans to "show up and give support" to the athletes in the final round.
Meanwhile, in a separate Flyweight bout, Ugandan athlete Angela Katushabe suffered a defeat to DRC’s Nyembo Muamba Giselle.
Despite the loss, Katushabe took it positively, stating that the experience served as a valuable learning curve for her career.
With the finals set for Friday, the stage is now set for a thrilling conclusion to the championships as the Kenyan squad aims for glory.
