The 18-year-old, son of Murang’a Seal head coach and former Harambee Stars midfielder Osborne Monday, has been part of Zürich’s youth setup since July 2024.
His impressive performances and rapid development have now earned him a spot among the club’s professional ranks.
“FC Zürich is pleased to announce that Damien Osborne Odera (born July 26, 2007) has signed his first professional contract, valid until 2030,” the club confirmed in a statement.
Odera, a versatile attacking all-rounder capable of playing as both a winger and striker, joined Zürich’s U19 side from German club FC Radolfzell, where he honed his skills in the youth ranks.
Since arriving in Switzerland, he has quickly adapted to the competitive environment, featuring 10 times for Zürich’s U21 team in the Swiss Promotion League and earning call-ups to senior training sessions.
Currently, Zürich’s U21 side sits ninth in the league and will face Brühl on November 9.
Depending on the club’s rotation and development plans, Odera could be included in Zürich’s Swiss Super League squad to face Luzern on Saturday — a potential senior debut that would cap off a remarkable year for the youngster.
Eligible to represent both Kenya and Germany, Odera’s rise highlights the growing presence of Kenyan talent across European football.
Meanwhile, on the continental stage, Harambee Stars right-back Baron Ochieng’ is on the verge of winning his first title with Egyptian giants Zamalek FC after helping his team edge out Pyramids FC 5-4 on penalties in the Egyptian Super Cup semi-final on Thursday.
Zamalek will now meet fierce rivals Al Ahly in a mouthwatering final on Sunday.
Odera’s progression continues a proud family legacy while showcasing Kenya’s expanding footprint in world football — one defined by discipline, opportunity, and rising global recognition.
