The eSports Kenya Federation has announced 82 Sports as the
official sponsor of the upcoming Phygital Rivals: Kenya Football Tournament,
set for December 6, 2025, at Jamhuri Primary School Astro Turf Grounds in
Nairobi.
The partnership, worth Ksh. 500,000, will cover logistics,
production, and prize rewards, with the champions pocketing Ksh. 70,000 and the
runners-up earning Ksh. 30,000.
The winners will also secure a fully sponsored trip to
Astana, Kazakhstan, to represent Kenya at the Games of the Future, an
international phygital competition.
82 Sports, a non-governmental organization that promotes
grassroots football and environmental sustainability through its Play for Green
Spaces initiative, says this collaboration aligns with its mission.
“We believe the future of sports lies in innovation and
inclusivity,” said CEO Joash Okuto.
“Phygital football blends athleticism and digital skill,
creating new opportunities for young players.”
Phygital football combines real-world 5-a-side matches with
digital FIFA showdowns on PlayStation 5, with aggregate scores deciding the
winner.
eSports Kenya Federation President Ronny Lusigi welcomed 82
Sports’ support, noting it underscores confidence in the federation’s growing
professionalism and transparency.
For players like Leone Mwaura who represented Kenya at the
inaugural edition in Abu Dhabi, the excitement is palpable.
“Competing both physically and digitally tested our teamwork and adaptability. It’s great to see more Kenyans get that chance,” he said.
Registration is now open for the first 16 teams via eSports Kenya Federation’s digital platforms.
