Kenya Moja MPs rip into Ruto’s State of the Nation speech, say ODM will exit broad-based Gov’t in March

A day after President William Ruto
gave a State of the Nation address to the bicameral Parliament regarding
strides made since his inception into the office three years ago, leaders from
the Kenya Moja political outfit say the Head of State’s speech was laced with
lies and was more of a manifesto launch.
The team, which spoke in Kisii,
intimated that the ODM association with the broad-based government will come to
an end by March 2026.
“Mimi
nilikataa kuskiza uongo ya Ruto sababu ningechemka nitolewe for six months. Unawezaje
kuja kuzungumzia maneno ya elimu kutransform Kenya iwe kama Singapore na ata
issues affecting schools and universities huwezi shughulikia? Private
university iko na madeni Ksh.60billion na unakuja kutuambia maneno ya Singapore…huyo
ni mtu anaelewa kitu anafanya kweli?” Posed Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary
General Edwin Sifuna.
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi stated:
“A President is using a State of the Nation address to launch a manifesto for
his re-election, haijawahifanyika, alafu kuna wabunge wanampigia shangwe…those
people were hired.”
The
lawmakers said the country continues to grapple with major clawbacks in
education, health and infrastructure sectors.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba
said: “Mimi I was shocked when the President said eti export yetu ya majani
chai kwa taifa imeongezeka by 54%...”
Kitutu Chache South MP Antony
Kibagendi noted: “He lied to us to hoodwink Kenyans, you lied that you have
exported 400,000 Kenyans to work in Asia…you have messed up the higher
education funding model…”
The
leaders who graced a widow’s event at Magina Secondary School grounds, claimed
ODM's role in the broad-based government was under review, saying continuation
was not a guarantee.
“Kuna wale
wanasema wako broad-based…wale wa ODM nawaambia wasifikirie wao ni wajanja
sana, wanaanza ooh Baba alisema mpaka ooh 2027, na ile siku Baba alisema ‘who
has told you that we can't have a presidential candidate?’” Posed Sifuna.
Amisi added: “We shall
have a state of emergency within ODM in 2026, we want to relieve you out of
Ruto government...it was only Baba who knew when broad-based was sick and how
to diagnose it…”
The
remarks are likely to cause jitters in an ODM party that is already unsettled
about the future and what it holds.
