Kenya Airways increases Kisumu flights ahead of Raila's burial

Kenya Airways has increased the flights to Kisumu over the weekend ahead of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's burial ceremony. 

The national airliner attributed this move to accommodate the high travel demand following a surge in bookings. 

KQ promised to ensure a seamless travel during the weekend.  "We’ve increased our flight frequency to Kisumu over the weekend to accommodate the high travel demand,"Kenya Airways posted on X.

On Friday, KQ added flights KQ656 at 1:30 pm and KQ658 at 7:00 pm. 

On Saturday, one more flight comprising KQ650 at 6:50 am was added, while KQ654 at 8:05 am was upgraded to Boeing 737.

On Sunday, flights KQ654 (8:05 am) and KQ671 (7:00 pm) were upgraded to Boeing 737.

In addition, flights KQ 654 and KQ670 were upgraded to Boeing 737 on Monday. 

Raila was accorded a state funeral service, as directed by President William Ruto, for his endless contributions towards the country's democracy. 

The body of Raila, who died on Wednesday after a cardiac arrest, was flown from India and taken to Kasarani Stadium for public viewing. 

On Friday, the former Prime Minister received a state funeral service at Nyayo Stadium, an event attended by government officials and foreign dignitaries. 

Thereafter, the body will remain at Nyayo Stadium for public viewing for the remaining part of the day. 

On Saturday, the body will leave Nairobi for Kisumu early in the morning for public viewing at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu City.

According to his family, Mr Odinga's burial will be on Sunday at a private ceremony, which is set to be attended by only a few selected people.
