Football Kenya Federation Women's Premier League side Kayole Starlets are aiming to cement their top-tier status after earning promotion back to the women's top football league.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, club head coach Mary Adhiambo admitted they
struggled in the National Super League following their relegation from the
premier league in 2021/2022 season, but the aim is to finish among the top five
teams at the end of the 2025/2026 women premier league campaign.
Adhiambo is of the view the team worked
hard in last term’s campaign and are aiming to build on the positives ahead of
their league kick-off match against Kenya Police Bullets, primed for Saturday, at
Utalipia Grounds.
"Last season we struggled a little
bit to regain our top-tier status, but this season in the premier league, our
main objective is to play at the top level and if possible finish among the top
five in the standings," she said.
With Kayole Starlets set to open their
season against the two-time champions, Coach Mary Adhiambo acknowledges Police
experience but insists her players are well-prepared.
"Kenya Police Bullets are good,
that's why they are the champions but we are prepared for the match,” she said.
“The players are gelling and preparations for the fixture have also been so
good," Adhiambo added.
Elsewhere, Trinity Starlets will take on
Kisumu Allstarlets at Comboni Polytechnic Grounds in Gilgil at 1pm on Saturday.
Action continues on Sunday, with three
matches lined up. Kibera Soccer Women will battle Ulinzi Starlets at Don Bosco
Utume in Karen while at Mumboha Stadium, Soccer Assassins will go head-to-head
with Gideon Starlets, and Bungoma Queens will clash with Vihiga Queens at Bungoma
National Polytechnic. All matches set for Sunday, will kick-off simultaneously at
1pm.
