Residents of Kawino Sub-location in South Kasipul Ward, Homa Bay County, are in shock after a middle-aged woman was found murdered and her body dumped in a nearby river, tied to a stone.
The body bore multiple wounds, believed to have resulted from a vicious assault.
Police officers from Oyugis have identified the deceased as Orpah Adhiambo.
The woman's husband, identified as Manase Ongaro, has been arrested in connection with the murder. The suspect is currently in police custody and is helping with the investigations.
According to neighbours who spoke to Wananchi Reporting, the couple had been embroiled in frequent domestic fights, often revolving around allegations of infidelity.
“They argued almost every week. The man kept accusing his wife of being unfaithful. We never thought it would come to this, it’s so painful,” a visibly shaken neighbour told Wananchi Reporting.
Local leaders have condemned the incident, calling for urgent community interventions to address domestic violence.
“No misunderstanding should ever end in death. Families must seek counseling and help before it’s too late,” said Mary Atieno, a women’s rights advocate from Kasipul.
The body was moved to Oyugis Sub-County Hospital mortuary as detectives continue to piece together what led to the gruesome killing.
