Reigning Prague half marathon champion Lilian Kasait Rengeruk will spearhead a strong Kenyan squad at Sunday’s 20th Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label road race.

Rengeruk , the 2024 Paris Olympics 10,000m finalist  , is targeting the women’s course record in the Indian capital.

The 28-year-old, who won the Prague Half Marathon earlier this year, clocked 1:03:32 in Valencia last season one of the fastest times in history  and now has her eyes on the 1:04:46 record set by Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw in 2020.

A Kenyan woman last won in Delhi ten years ago when Cynthia Limo took the crown in 2015, and Rengeruk believes it’s time to bring that glory back home.

“Injuries remind you how much you love sport,” she said. “Now I just want to stay strong and consistent. I’m ready to test myself again and give my best.”

Another rising Kenyan in the road races , Grace Loibach Nawowuna, will make her Delhi debut after opening her 2025 season with a win in Hong Kong.

“It feels great to be here for the first time,” said Nawowuna. “If I can walk away with a personal best, it will be a big step forward.”

Also in the women’s field is Catherine Reline Amang’ole, the Paris Half Marathon champion, joining fellow Kenyans Susy Chemaimak and Monicah Wanjuhi in what promises to be an exciting showdown against Ethiopia’s Mulat Tekle and Alemaddis Eyayu.

In the men’s race, Kenya’s fast rising Benard Biwott winner of the 2025 Paris Marathon leads the Kenyan challenge.

He will be joined by Isaac Kipkemboi and Alex Matata, both looking to upset Ethiopia’s experienced Birhanu Legese, a two-time Delhi winner and Tokyo Marathon champion.

“My plan is simple,” said Biwott.

“Stay in the pack for the first half, then push hard when the real race begins. That’s when the legs and the mind must work together,” she added.

Legese, who boasts a 2:02:48 personal best from Berlin, is back in India for the tenth time.
