Kamel Ghribi, the Chairman of GKSD Investment Holdings and President of Grupo San Donato, has been awarded the Dea Roma Special Achievement Award in Healthcare Innovation, Research and Management during the 50th anniversary gala of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), held at the Washington Hilton.

Ghribi received the award alongside a distinguished lineup of leaders and innovators at the black-tie celebration attended by more than 2,500 guests, according to a statement by NIAF.

In a message shared on his official Instagram page, Ghribi expressed gratitude for the recognition. “This recognition is a testimony to the value of the vibrant Italian-American community, which contributes to strengthening our society,” he said. “I am deeply grateful for the rich heritage we celebrate and the shared future we are building. I express my sincere thanks to the NIAF for this great privilege.”

Ghribi’s Grupo San Donato is one of Italy’s largest healthcare networks, operating a constellation of hospitals and medical centers across Europe and beyond. The group has played a pivotal role in advancing research, digital health, and medical innovation, which has positioned it as a global reference point for integrated care and clinical excellence.

Other honorees at the gala included Flavio Cattaneo, CEO of Enel Group; Roberto Cingolani, CEO of Leonardo S.p.A.; Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, CEO of FS Italiane Group; Doug Leone, Partner at Sequoia Capital; and Katia Passerini, President of Gonzaga University. The evening marked five decades of NIAF’s work promoting Italian-American relations, culture, and shared values.

Meanwhile, in a related development, GKSD Investment Holdings and the Government of Gabon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in healthcare, infrastructure, and sustainable development.

The agreement was signed by Ghribi and Régis Onanga Ndiaye, Gabon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.

A statement following the signing described the partnership as a “shared vision for progress,” outlining collaboration across healthcare, education, energy, and social housing sectors. The plan includes the construction of a modular and sustainable hospital, the development of renewable energy projects, and the introduction of telemedicine systems designed to expand healthcare access in remote areas.

Beyond infrastructure, the agreement places strong emphasis on human capital — with commitments to train Gabonese doctors and nurses through exchange and capacity-building programs with San Donato facilities.

Within 30 days, a joint task force is expected to be established to define detailed implementation strategies for each project. The MoU, initially set for three months, is renewable, underscoring both parties’ intent to build a long-term framework for cooperation in Africa’s growing health and sustainability sectors.
