Kalonzo woos discontented Azimio MPs, tells youth to register as voters ahead of 2027

Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has rallied the youth to turn out en masse and register as voters ahead of the 2027 general polls.

Speaking on Monday when he hosted university student leaders at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi, Musyoka told the youth that their voices will only be heard and felt through the ballot during voting day.

He said the only way to remove the President William Ruto-led regime is by securing voter cards following the fresh registration window by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“This country’s youth is very hungry for leadership change. They are patriotic and do not care about ethnic lines,” the Wiper leader said.

The opposition politician told the government to acquire the services of the students and youth in the ongoing voter registration as part of job creation.

His sentiments were echoed by young lawmakers, led by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui and his Embakasi East counterpart Babu Owino, among others.

Owino, who addressed the students, threw his weight behind Kalonzo’s presidential bid for the 2027 race.

“Every comrade must register as a voter so that come 2027, we stand firmly behind Kalonzo. Kalonzo has all it takes, I have witnessed his leadership and campaign style,” he told the group.

Musyoka appears to be wooing disgruntled Azimio La Umoja lawmakers, who he is urging to join the Wiper party, even if it will compel them to seek a fresh mandate from their constituents.

“Babu, if things look confusing in ODM and the larger Azimio coalition, I welcome you to Wiper,” he told the Embakasi East MP, whose party leader, Raila Odinga, once the opposition chief, struck a political agreement with President Ruto in March.

He further expressed optimism that the next administration, should Wiper clinch power, will review all of President Ruto's policies, which he argues are hurting Kenyans.
