Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) and the Ukombozi Alliance Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, alongside other opposition leaders, on Thursday, November 5, faced attacks following running battles between suspected goons and police officers during a series of political engagements in Migori County.

The incidents occurred as the leaders continued their scheduled public engagement rallies, where they met residents to discuss issues affecting Kenyans and the country's political future.

Kalonzo condemned the violence and intimidation, describing the incidents as acts of political intolerance and an infringement on the constitutional rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression and political participation.

He criticised the use of police tear gas against citizens attending peaceful political gatherings, maintaining that no Kenyan should be subjected to violence, harassment or intimidation for exercising their democratic rights.

The Wiper leader also condemned the involvement of goons in disrupting political meetings, calling upon security agencies to investigate the incidents, identify those responsible and ensure that appropriate action is taken.

"The police lobbed teargas, why? A very peaceful meeting. I think the script is throw the stone and then throw teargas. Just like Garissa, a few goons whom we could count up to ten must have started throwing stones," he stated.

He reaffirmed that neither violence nor intimidation would deter the opposition from continuing its public engagements across the country.

Despite the disruptions, the leaders vowed to proceed with their remaining rallies as scheduled, emphasising that their commitment to engaging Kenyans remains unchanged.

"To put the life of a leader at risk is a serious miscalculation. My vehicle is badly hit from the rear and front. We must condemn this. If they think this will scare us, they are wrong."

The Wiper Patriotic Front further called upon the National Police Service and other security agencies to uphold the Constitution, exercise restraint and guarantee the safety and security of all Kenyans regardless of their political affiliations.

The leaders reiterated that political differences must never be used to justify violence and that the right to peaceful political engagement must be respected and protected.
