Kabras RFC
won the Kenya Cup rugby title for the fifth consecutive time after defeating
rivals KCB RFC 14–8 in the final played at the Kakamega Showgrounds on Saturday
afternoon.
Supersub
Ntabeni Dukisa, who was introduced in the 35th minute of the first half, scored
three penalties to help Kabras retain their title and further cement their dominance
in the Kenya Cup league.
KCB RFC were
the first to get on the scoreboard, scoring a three-point penalty in the first
half as both sides displayed strong defensive discipline.
However,
Kabras staged a comeback in the second half, overturning the deficit twice
before sealing victory through three penalties from Ntabeni Dukisa and a try by
Eric Cantona.
Kabras RFC
coach Carlos Katywa praised the victory, saying the experience within his squad
played a key role in helping the team recover and clinch the title.
“It was a tough encounter against our rivals KCB, but I remained confident because of the experience in my team. I knew the boys would come back strongly, especially in the second half. I salute KCB for being worthy opponents,” he said.
The
sentiments were echoed by KCB RFC coach Andrew Amonde, who admitted that
despite leading at one stage, his players struggled to contain Kabras’
experience.
“We put up a
spirited fight, but we could not match the experience of Kabras. I have a young
team, and hopefully they will come back stronger next season,” he said.
Kabras RFC
have now won the Kenya Cup title five years in a row.
