John Baraza has officially parted ways with Bandari FC, just two days after the
club unveiled Mohammed Borji as the new head coach, with Tarik Bendamou named
his assistant.
According
to Bandari FC CEO Tony Kibwana, the decision to end Baraza’s tenure was reached
mutually. Baraza’s two-year contract, which was initially set to run until
January 2026, was terminated following discussions between both parties.
"After the arrival of the new coach, we met with Coach Baraza to explain our plans. Unfortunately, it didn't sit well with him.
"We then agreed to part ways, just three months before the end of his contract," Kibwana stated.
"He has
served us well, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
The former Mara Sugar and Kakamega Homeboyz coach joined Bandari FC in October 2023 following the sacking of veteran coach Twahir Muhidin.
He was confirmed as the
head coach in January 2024 and signed a two-year contract until 2026.
During
his time at the helm, Baraza turned the team’s fortunes around—lifting Bandari
from 11th to 4th place in the 2023–2024 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season.
However, his role was changed in July 2024 when he was demoted to assistant coach, with former Harambee Stars assistant coach Ken Odhiambo taking over as head coach.
Under the new technical leadership, Bandari FC finished 8th in the 2024–2025
season, securing 44 points from 10 wins, 14 draws, and 10 losses.
CEO
Kibwana remains optimistic despite recent challenges and has called fans to
support the new technical bench.
“Our new head coach, Borji, and his assistant are blending well with the team,” he said.
“The players have responded positively to the new training and playing styles,
and we believe the results will come soon.”
“We urge
our fans to be patient as we continue to build a strong team for the KPL,”
added Kibwana.
Bandari
FC will face AFC Leopards tomorrow at Mbaraki Stadium in the ODM @20
tournament, featuring top teams like Gor Mahia and Shabana FC.
