Jamia Mosque Nairobi Secretary-General, AbdulBari Hamid, was on Tuesday officially presented with his National Hero Award and Certificate of Recognition by the Chief Executive Officer of the National Heroes Council, Charles Wambia, on behalf of President William Ruto.

The official presentation ceremony, held at the Jamia Multipurpose Hall, marked a moment of great pride for the Jamia Mosque fraternity and the wider Muslim community.

Mr. Hamid was among 184 distinguished Kenyans recognised by President Ruto during the 2025 Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui County for their outstanding contributions to national development, humanitarian service, and community empowerment.

In a statement, the National Heroes Council lauded Mr. Hamid for his unwavering commitment to public service through various community service and philanthropic initiatives.

“As the Secretary-General of Jamia Mosque Nairobi, Mr. Hamid has spearheaded a remarkable array of humanitarian projects, including the provision of housing for displaced families, support for persons with disabilities through the donation of wheelchairs, and the distribution of food and medical assistance to vulnerable communities,” the Council noted.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Wambia commended Mr. Hamid for his exemplary leadership and lifelong dedication to uplifting the less privileged in society.

“The National Heroes Council takes great pride in honouring Kenyans who have made tangible and lasting contributions to our nation. We are committed to ensuring that recognition reaches every corner of the country, including the grassroots,” said Mr. Wambia.

Chairman of the Jamia Mosque Committee, Sheikh Muhammad Warfa, expressed deep appreciation to the National Heroes Council for the recognition, noting that the honour extended beyond the individual to the entire Jamia community.
