Jamia Mosque Secretary-General honoured with State award

Jamia Mosque Nairobi Secretary-General, AbdulBari Hamid, was on Tuesday officially presented with his National Hero Award and Certificate of Recognition by the Chief Executive Officer of the National Heroes Council, Charles Wambia, on behalf of President William Ruto.
The official presentation ceremony, held at
the Jamia Multipurpose Hall, marked a moment of great pride for the Jamia
Mosque fraternity and the wider Muslim community.
Mr. Hamid was among 184 distinguished
Kenyans recognised by President Ruto during the 2025 Mashujaa Day celebrations
in Kitui County for their outstanding contributions to national development,
humanitarian service, and community empowerment.
In a statement, the National Heroes Council
lauded Mr. Hamid for his unwavering commitment to public service through
various community service and philanthropic initiatives.
“As the Secretary-General of Jamia Mosque
Nairobi, Mr. Hamid has spearheaded a remarkable array of humanitarian projects,
including the provision of housing for displaced families, support for persons
with disabilities through the donation of wheelchairs, and the distribution of
food and medical assistance to vulnerable communities,” the Council noted.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Wambia
commended Mr. Hamid for his exemplary leadership and lifelong dedication to
uplifting the less privileged in society.
“The National Heroes Council takes great
pride in honouring Kenyans who have made tangible and lasting contributions to
our nation. We are committed to ensuring that recognition reaches every corner
of the country, including the grassroots,” said Mr. Wambia.
Chairman of the Jamia Mosque Committee,
Sheikh Muhammad Warfa, expressed deep appreciation to the National Heroes
Council for the recognition, noting that the honour extended beyond the
individual to the entire Jamia community.
“On behalf of the Jamia Mosque Committee,
we are truly grateful to the National Heroes Council for recognising the
selfless service and leadership of our Secretary-General, Brother AbdulBari
Hamid. This award is not only his but a shared honour for the entire Jamia
Mosque fraternity,” Sheikh Warfa said.
In his remarks, Mr. Hamid conveyed his
heartfelt gratitude for the national recognition, dedicating the award to the
staff and leadership of Jamia Mosque Nairobi for their continued support and cooperation
in advancing community-based initiatives.
“This award belongs to the Jamia family —
the staff, leadership, and all who work tirelessly to serve humanity. I am
truly humbled,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by senior
officials of the Jamia Mosque Committee, including Deputy Chairman Abdullatif
Essajee, Treasurer Billow Kerrow, Deputy Treasurer Khider Farouk Adam,
Committee Member Abdulhamid Slatch, Imam of Jamia Mosque Sheikh Jamaluddin
Osman, among others.
