This year’s race has attracted a record 30,602 participants, the highest since the event began.
The marathon is now World Athletics Road Race Label accredited, a big step that organisers say brings it closer to joining the list of World Marathon Majors.
Local Organising Committee chairman David Mwindi said the progress made over the years has lifted the event to global standards.
“We are confident that the strides made over the years will eventually position the Nairobi Marathon among the World Marathon Majors,” said Mwindi.
In the men’s race, last year’s bronze medallist Peter Kwemoi Ndorobo will lead a strong Kenyan field that includes Collins Kipkorir Cheboi and Bethwel Kipruto Kosgei.
In the women’s race Ruth Wakabu, the Mwea Half Marathon winner who finished fifth last year, Esther Chemutai and Violah Kosgei will return to battle against more than 200 elite runners are expected to line up in search of top honours.

Nairobi Traffic Commandant Joseph Chirchir has announced a 14-hour closure of the Southern Bypass to allow for the marathon.
The closure will start at midnight on Saturday, October 25 and end at 2 pm on Sunday, October 26.
“We intend to have a temporary closure of the Nairobi Southern Bypass from Ole Sereni Interchange to Kikuyu Town. Vehicles using the bypass will be diverted to Mombasa Road through Uhuru Highway to their destinations,” said Chirchir.
Southern Bypass and connecting roads will be closed from midnight on Saturday, but Langata Road and Langata Link Road will remain open to give access to Uhuru Gardens and parking at Langata Primary School.
He added that motorists coming from Kikuyu Town are advised to use other main highways.
Chirchir said the closure is meant to ensure smooth coordination and safety for both athletes and fans.
“Security has been beefed up across Nairobi, and we urge motorists to follow traffic rules and cooperate with police officers stationed along affected routes,” he added.
Joyce Kibe, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing for Standard Chartered Kenya and Africa, assured runners and fans of a smooth and safe experience.
“We are ready to deliver a seamless, safe, and inspirational experience on October 26,” said Kibe.
