The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has commenced investigations into the death of Shukri Ibrahim , who was allegedly gunned down by a police officer on January 11, 2026,  in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, in Embakasi, Nairobi County.

In a statement to newsrooms, IPOA noted that on the fateful day, Ibrahim was in the company of Wycliff Nyakwama and Festus Mutinda while enroute to deliver a motor vehicle to a client in Imara Daima when the vehicle was involved in a traffic accident with a Matatu.

A confrontation is reported to have ensued between the drivers of the two vehicles, prompting the trio to drive away after the matatu driver called for reinforcement from colleagues.

The trio is said to have parked at MCC School and began walking back to the scene when they were intercepted by officers Godwin Mjomba and Patrick Mutunga Titus, ordering them to lie down.

"During the encounter, Sergeant Godwin Mjomba allegedly discharged his firearm, fatally injuring Mr. Shukri Ibrahim. The deceased sustained a gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene," the statement read in part.

IPOA oversaw the post-mortem examination of the deceased, which was conducted on the afternoon of the fateful day, confirming that he sustained a head injury due to a single penetrating gunshot. He was buried at the Lang'ata Muslim Cemetery.

The two suspected officers were arrested and arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts on Monday morning.

The court granted the Authority’s request for custodial orders and ruled that the suspects be detained for 14 days to allow for the completion of investigations.
