The driver was transporting a lorry registration number KDR 422F, loaded with 259 bags of cement, from Simba Cement Factory in Athi River. According to police, the vehicle was tracked moving along the Athi River–MKS–Masii–Mwala–Matuu route before it was diverted at Masii towards the Tawa area.
Authorities say the driver’s mobile phone went off shortly after the diversion, raising concern and prompting the lorry owner to report the matter at Matuu Police Station at around 11:00 pm.
The lorry was later found abandoned at Kithuia shopping centre at about 1:30 am, with the ignition keys still inside. The driver and other occupants were missing.
Police in Tawa launched a search, and the driver’s body was later discovered in a nearby bush. The body had visible physical injuries, with the hands tied behind the back and a rope around the neck and forehead, indicating foul play.
The body was removed to Tawa Mortuary, while the lorry was towed to Tawa Police Station for further investigations.
Preliminary findings indicate that the driver may have been killed elsewhere before the body was dumped at the scene. Police noted that the cement cargo had not been interfered with.
Matuu OCS Stanley Wanjala confirmed the incident, adding that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and to identify those responsible.
