Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has advised Kenyans to stay away from violence linked to political activities, saying they should not allow themselves to be used to cause unrest and lose lives.
Speaking in Kisumu on Sunday, the PS urged youths to avoid
political meetings organized by leaders they do not support rather than
engaging in violence.
Omollo added that the government will not allow violence as
a means of conducting politics.
“If you do not support a particular politician, stay away
from their meeting. Let us not engage in violence or lose lives because of
politics. This is the firm directive President William Ruto has given me and
the entire country: under his leadership, there will be no politics of violence.
We will not use violence to transact our politics,” said Omollo.
He called on young people to avoid actions that could lead
to harm, as political leaders continue to mobilise followers ahead of the 2027
general election.
“As one of those who have been given the privilege to
support and serve you, I have no doubt in my mind that you have the best
interest of this region at heart. You have demonstrated this from your first
day in office, without coercion and without push,” the PS said on President
Ruto’s support.
The president’s development tour in Nyanza will focus on
reviewing and launching infrastructure and initiatives like water projects and
housing across Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, and Migori counties.
It will also focus on engagements with local leaders and
residents, with discussions mainly focusing on development and the government’s
agenda.
