Hotpoint Appliances Limited, in partnership with Britam General Insurance and MIC Global Risks, has launched an All-Risks insurance cover for electric appliances purchased at Hotpoint retail outlets and through its e-commerce platform.

This marks the first initiative of its kind in Kenya, where an electronics retailer automatically embeds insurance cover at no extra cost at the point of purchase, a move that redefines customer protection and value in the home appliances market.

Under the new policy, customers receive 12 months of protection against accidental damage, power surges, fire and water damage, transit loss, theft and burglary, and political violence and terrorism.

The partnership also includes a repair-or-replace guarantee, ensuring swift restoration or replacement of affected appliances across Hotpoint’s nationwide service centres.

Eligible products include refrigerators, freezers, televisions, select audio systems, laundry appliances, dishwashers, cookers (excluding table-top units), and room air conditioners. Customers will receive a digital insurance certificate at checkout, with claims processed via Britam’s digital claims portal.

The launch comes amid demand for home appliances. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) 2025 Economic Outlook, Kenya’s household appliance and consumer electronics market is expected to grow by 11.4 per cent in 2025, driven by rising disposable incomes, rapid urbanisation, and increased mortgage uptake.

Hotpoint Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ravi Kanani said that the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing customer-centred innovation.

“At Hotpoint, we believe in providing far more than quality products; we deliver long-term value, trust, and peace of mind,” Kanani said.

“By offering automatic insurance cover at no additional cost, we are ensuring our customers enjoy complete confidence with every appliance they bring home.”

Britam General Insurance CEO and Principal Officer (PO), James Mbithi, said that the partnership aligns with Britam’s 2025 strategy to deliver digital-first, lifestyle-centric protection solutions.

“Most consumers do not proactively insure household appliances, yet these items are essential to everyday life. Embedding insurance into the purchase journey ensures protection is simple, relevant and accessible,” Mbithi said.

MIC Global Risks, Chief Operations Officer and PO, Puneet Chawla, highlighted the value of partnering with Hotpoint, one of East Africa’s most trusted electronics distributors.

“By working with Britam and Hotpoint, we are making protection effortless, giving customers peace of mind from the moment they shop with their trusted retailer,” Chawla said.

This initiative emphasises Hotpoint’s long-standing commitment to offering world-class products supported by exceptional after-sales value, security and customer confidence.
