An estimated 15% of Kenyans are in need of quality eye care, yet access to high-standard ophthalmic services remains a challenge.

It was this very challenge that inspired Dr Amos Kibata to establish City Eye Hospital in Nairobi in 2015, a high-volume, patient-centred facility dedicated to making quality eye care accessible to all.

His passion was fulfilled with every life transformed, every sight restored, and every patient who regained the ability to see and live fully.

As of September 2024, City Eye Hospital had served nearly half a million Kenyans, 40% of them free of charge through outreach programs designed to reach those most in need.

That same month marked a moment of deep sorrow as we mourned the passing of our Founder, Dr Amos Kibata, a visionary leader whose compassion and dedication continue to guide our mission.

This World Sight Day 2025, we commemorate one year since Dr Kibata’s passing.

Though he is no longer with us, his mission endures. In the past year alone, over 60,000 patients have received treatment at our Nairobi and Nyeri facilities.

Among them, 25,000 individuals unable to afford care benefited from free services made possible through the generous support of our partners and well-wishers.

This milestone reaffirms our unwavering commitment to continue the work Dr Kibata began; ensuring that quality eye care is accessible to every Kenyan and, by God’s grace, extending that impact beyond our borders.

All glory to God, who continues to light our path and the eyes of those we serve.

World Sight Day stands as a reminder of our purpose — a renewed pledge to bring light and vision to our communities.
