Heavy traffic on Waiyaki Way after temporary closure near expressway exit

The traffic disruption comes as motorists using the Nairobi Expressway Westlands Exit adjust to a temporary diversion announced by MOJA Expressway Company.
In a public notice, MOJA said scheduled maintenance and construction works along the elevated expressway deck after the Nairobi Westlands Exit will run from 8 pm on September 8 to 5 pm on September 20, 2026.
During the period, motorists exiting the Nairobi Expressway at the Westlands Exit have been directed to join the lower A8 road along Waiyaki Way.
The diversion is expected to affect traffic flow along the already busy corridor, particularly during peak hours.
Moja Expressway has urged motorists to exercise caution and follow instructions from traffic marshals stationed along the affected route.
The expressway operator has, however, clarified that toll station operations remain fully unaffected during the maintenance period.
Motorists using Waiyaki Way and surrounding roads have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow additional travel time to account for possible delays.
MOJA apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary traffic arrangements and thanked motorists for choosing the Nairobi Expressway.
