The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall advisory running from March 6 to March 9, warning that several parts of the country, particularly Nairobi and its surrounding counties, will experience intense downpours.

In its latest forecast, the weather agency said widespread rainfall is expected to continue across Nairobi, with heavy downpours likely in Westlands, Dagoretti, Roysambu, Kibra, Embakasi, Makadara, Kamukunji, Lang’ata, Kasarani and Mathare.

Neighbouring Kiambu County is also set to receive significant rainfall, especially in Gatundu North, Gatundu South, Thika Town, Juja, Ruiru, Limuru, Kikuyu and Githunguri.

The advisory further indicates that parts of Kajiado County and Machakos County will experience isolated to widespread rainfall, particularly in Kajiado North, Masinga, Mavoko, Kathiani and Machakos Town.

The Meteorological Department cautioned that the risk of weather-related hazards remains high, urging residents to remain vigilant. Potential dangers include flash floods in low-lying and poorly drained urban areas, slippery roads that could disrupt transport, poor visibility for motorists, and rising river levels downstream.

Authorities have advised the public to exercise caution, especially when travelling, and avoid crossing flooded roads or walking through fast-moving water.
