Heavy rains damage homes, police quarters in Bungoma

Residents of Makunga Market in Tongaren, Bungoma County, and surrounding areas are counting losses after heavy rains accompanied by strong winds swept through the area on Tuesday evening.

Several residential houses and business premises were reportedly damaged or collapsed.

The police officers’ quarters at Makunga Police Station were also affected after strong winds ripped off roofs.

A police corporal narrowly escaped death when his house collapsed and was rescued by residents.

The affected families are now appealing for urgent assistance from the Bungoma County Government as they cope with the damage.
