Kenya’s growing appetite for ethical and Sharia-compliant business models took centre stage at the 2nd Edition of the Sharia Compliance and Halal Business Expo 2025, held from October 10th to 12th at BBS Mall in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
The three-day
event attracted over 130 exhibitors and 5,000 visitors from across East Africa
and beyond, signalling a strong shift toward the Halal economy.
Exhibitors from
seven countries showcased a diverse range of Halal-certified and
Sharia-compliant products and services, including finance, real estate,
fashion, food, investment, and tourism.
Industry experts
say the sector’s rapid growth reflects Kenya’s strategic positioning as a hub
for Islamic finance and ethical business in the region.
Somalia’s
Ambassador to Kenya Jabril Abdulle hailed the Expo for promoting responsible
trade practices that align with faith-based principles.
“Such fairs should
be regular as they set the stage for sustained trade between Kenya and Somalia,
a partnership that continues to flourish,” he said.
Christine Mwende,
CEO of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Nairobi
Chapter, urged Kenyan enterprises to tap into the multi-trillion-dollar global
Halal economy, saying ethical trade is the future of competitiveness.
“Inclusivity and
ethical business practices are not just moral imperatives—they are powerful
drivers of trade, innovation, and global competitiveness,” she noted.
According to
Ridwan Yusuf, CEO of the Sharia Compliance and Halal Business Expo, the
platform continues to expand its influence in Islamic finance, Halal trade, and
Sharia-compliant investments across East and Central Africa.
Building on this
year’s success, organizers announced that the 3rd Edition of the Expo will be
held in April 2026 in Nairobi, underscoring the sector’s growing foothold in
Kenya’s economic landscape.
