Three youth-led teams from the Siaya Hackathon have earned national recognition at the Kenya Software & AI Summit, held at the Siaya Community Digital Hub in Moi University Annex Campus, Eldoret.

The hackathon, which ran from October 13 to 15, 2025, established a grassroots foundation for digital innovation across the country.

Over 35 talented young innovators from Siaya’s local communities, including students from Bondo Technical Training Institute (TTI) and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, participated in the 72-hour challenge, designing practical digital solutions for MSMEs and SMEs.

The three winning teams included: the DigitalNest Team, including Hesbon Otieno, David Tonje Wanambisi, Stephen Omondi, Derrick Omwanza, Lorrent Odhiambo, and Grace Oginga, who developed AGRILINK BONDO. A digital agricultural management and marketplace system connecting farmers, buyers, and financial institutions to streamline transactions and enhance financial inclusion.

In second place was The Sentry Team, including Blessed Kamungu, Michael Sule, Wycliff Opella, Faith Adhiambo, Dennis Chacha, Esther Lorah Adhiambo, and Jevan Otieno, who created Dhibiti Stock. A platform helping MSMEs manage inventory, sales, and finances while leveraging smart analytics and performance tracking.

In third place was the Solutech Team, including Dave Ochieng, Lewis Kinoti, Mathew Otieno, Winfresha Sarah, Rebeca Achieng, Oliver Ohana, and Dennis Naktare, who developed Kazi-hub. A platform that connects informal-sector job seekers to nearby employment opportunities and offers integrated training programs.

“Our national digital skilling programs are not just about employment; they are about preparing the youth to become creators of global digital value. This is the practical outcome of smart policy and strong partnerships,” said Konza Technopolis Chief Executive Officer, John Paul Okwiri.

“Siaya Hackathon focused on ensuring that digital prosperity is not confined to one city but is distributed nationwide,” said Huawei Kenya ICT Academy Manager, Michael Kamau.
